ADVANCES IN SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR FOOD AND NUTRITIONAL SECURITY

PROGRAMME ELUCIDATION (NAHEP-CAAST): The National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) is a new initiative of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, funded by World Bank and Government of India on sharing basis. The NAHEP is an ambitious step of ICAR to strengthen the National Agricultural Education System in the country by investing in capacity building of Students, Faculties, Infrastructural Development and Innovative Technologies. The Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari, Gujarat was granted an Center for Advanced Agricultural Science and Technology (CAAST) Sub-component on “Establishment of Secondary Agriculture Unit for Skill Development in Students and Farmers” on competitive basis in 2018. ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: The Navsari Agricultural University campus is located 3 km to the West of Navsari city. The main campus at Navsari houses various graduates and post graduates colleges in faculties of Agriculture/Forestry/Horticulture and Agribusiness Management. The NAU has made remarkable progress in its tripartite activities i.e., Education, Research and Extension Education which was matched with growth in infrastructure and Human Resource Development since its inception. The NAU, Navsari has bagged many awards at the national level for excellence in its mandated activities. BACKGROUND: During the last few decades, the country has made remarkable progress in food and agricultural production particularly cereals by adopting different agricultural technologies. Despite such an achievement, India lags behind on the front of nutrition security. Although, the nutritional security has direct impact on health of the society but it was largely neglected in our country. Further, in recent past the ill effects of chemical driven intensive farming is reflecting from the fact of steadily depletion and deterioration of natural resources which ultimately affect the quality of the food. In contemporary world, nutritional security becomes more important than food security. The agricultural scientific fraternity is facing the challenge of securing the food security along with nutritional security of the ever increasing population worldwide. Thus, there is an urgent need to develop ecologically naïve, economically viable agricultural technologies. It could be possible by smartly integration of natural resources and available advance crop production techniques viz. use of robotics, nano-technological and biotechnological tools, food processing and fortification as well as appropriate use of marketing intelligence. This virtual seminar is planned to highlight the important issue of achieving the food and nutritional security in our country and it also serve as digital platform to disseminate the current technologies as well as discuss future prospects and strategies to mitigate the problem of food and nutritional security.(For more details view brochure)

ગુજરાતના પશુપાલકો ઓછા ખર્ચે, વધુ આરામદાયક ગાય રહેઠાણ(આવાસ)ની સ્પર્ધા. (LOW-COST, HIGH-COMFORT COW-HOUSING COMPETITION” FOR THE DAIRY ANIMAL OWNERS OF GUJARAT)

સ્પર્ધાના નિયમો અને શરતો: આ નિષ્ણાતો દ્વારા વિકસિત સ્કોર કાર્ડના આધારે રહેઠાણ વ્યવસ્થાનું મૂલ્યાંકન કરવામાં આવશે. આ સ્પર્ધા માટે જે વ્યાપક મુદ્દાઓ ધ્યાનમાં લેવામાં આવશે તે હશે: સ્પર્ધા ગુજરાતમાં 05-50 ગાય ધરાવતા પશુપાલકો માટે છે. પશુપાલકે દિવસના અમુક સમયગાળા માટે ગાયોને ખુલ્લી પાળવી જોઈએ અને ખોરાક આપવો જોઈએ ગાયોની જરૂરિયાત મુજબ પાણીની વ્યવસ્થા સુલભ હોવી જોઈએ. સ્ટીલ અને સિમેન્ટના ભારે વપરાશ સાથે કોન્ટ્રાક્ટ પર બાંધવામાં આવેલા ફાર્મને પાત્ર ગણાશે નહીં. નિર્ણાયક સમિતિ સ્થાનિક સંસાધનોના ઉપયોગ અને ખેડૂતોની ભાગીદારી પર ભાર મૂકશે. પશુપાલકોએ અલગ-અલગ દિશા (એંગલ) થી લીધેલી તબેલાની ઓછામાં ઓછી ચાર તસવીરો (ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ) મોકલવાના રહેશે. આ તસવીરો (ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ) સ્પષ્ટ હોવા જોઈએ અને ભોયતળિયું (ફ્લોર), છત/છાપરું, ગામાણ અને ત્રણ બાજુની દીવાલોમાં રહેલ ગાયો દર્શાવવી જરૂરી છે. એક ફોટો સમગ્ર ફાર્મ પરિસરને આવરી લેતો લાંબો શોટ હોવો જોઈએ. પસંદગીના સહભાગીઓ દ્વારા વધારાની રકમ એકત્રિત કરવા માટે નિર્ણાયક સમિતિ દ્વારા વિડિયો-કોલ પર સંપર્ક કરવામાં આવશે તો તે સમયે ફાર્મ પરની માહિતી લગતા જવાબો વિડિયો-કોલ પર આપવા ફરજિયાત છે. પશુપાલકો દ્વારા મોકલવા આવેલી તસવીરો (ફોટોગ્રાફ્સ) ઉપયોગ સંસ્થાકીય પ્રકાશનોમાં થઈ શકે છે. આવા તમામ કિસ્સાઓમાં, ઉપયોગ બિન-વ્યાવસાયિક હશે અને ખેડૂતને યોગ્ય સ્વીકૃતિ આપવામાં આવશે. વિજેતા નક્કી કરવાનો આખરી નિર્ણય સમિતિ પાસે રહેશે, જે પશુપાલકને બંધનકર્તા રહેશે. દરેક ખેડૂત માત્ર એક જ એન્ટ્રી સબમિટ (અપલોડ) કરી શકશે. દૂધ ઉત્પાદક સંઘ / ડેરી પ્રોસેસર્સ / ડેરી સહકારી મંડળી / કેવિકે અને અન્ય સેવા પ્રદાતાઓ એકથી વધુ એન્ટ્રી સબમિટ કરી શકે છે, પરંતુ દરેક કિસ્સામાં તેઓએ અલગ અલગ પશુપાલકોની વિગતો જેમ કે નામ, સરનામું અને સંપર્ક નંબર આપવો જરૂરી છે. Broad points which will be considered for this event will be as : The competition is open for the farmers located in Gujarat having 05-50 cow holding. The farmer should rear the cows untied at least for major part of the day and feeding and water arrangements must be accessible as per need of the cows. Judging Committee will put emphasis on use of local resources and farmer participation in designing. The farmers should send at least four images of the farm taken from different angles. The picture should be clear and should show the floor, roof and the cows housed in it. One photo should be a long shot covering the entire farm premises. The selected participants will be contacted by the judging committee to collect additional information on the farm, it is mandatory to provide replies on video-call. The images submitted by the farmers may be used in publications. In all such cases, the use will be non-commercial and due acknowledgement to the farmer will be given. The right to reject any entry will remain with the judging committee and no representation against their decision will be accepted. Each farmer can submit only one entry. The Milk Union / dairy processors / dairy cooperatives / KVKs and other service providers can submit as many entries, but in each case, they should give details of the farmers, such as name, address and contact number. HACKATHON ON "SMART AND REMUNERATIVE FARMING" BACKGROUND This event is envisioned to offer an opportunity to the students, faculties and/or entrepreneurs/innovators to showcase their innovative approache and technology solutions to promote smart and remunerative farming practices in India. Further, this initiative of NAHEP-CAAST-NAU, Navsari in collaboration with Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar, Uttar Pradesh; National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana; Centre for Social Entrepreneurship & Enterprises (CSEE): Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Gujarat and Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere, Maharashtra will act as a catalyst to enhance learning capabilities, innovativeness, employability and entrepreneurial drive in the agriculture and allied sector. THEMATIC AREAS This event is intended to invite and encourage participants to come out with an innovative and out of box solutions for the problem statement. The participants will be presenting an efficient and sustainable solution through technology and managerial intervention for emerging challenges at local and/or national level.
